Tips & Tricks to Aquascaping Maintenance
Creating a beautiful aquascape is the initial fun engaging part. Maintaining and evolving a scape is quite another thing. In this section we will look at various methods and recommendation to maintain your scape with ease and efficiency
1
Water Changes
This is an obvious one, however some maybe surprised by how much. It's critical in the early days of a new scape that 50% per week minimum is what we recommend to allow your plants to settle in. This also keeps nutrient imbalances in check. Thus, preventing algae from taking hold. Avoid pouring buckets in and potentially damaging the scape. We recommend a bucket in the sink, attach a long pipe to a water pump and pump the water in as the bucket fills. This will maintain consistent temperature and less stress for all.
2
Lighting Period
During our experiences with aquariums, we know how much lighting in the driving force of plants. Allow your plants to settle in and avoid demanding too much growth in its early days. These can stress your plants and cause melting. Start with 6 hours per day and increase half hour per week until you reach 8 hours. We recommend this as the limit. Anymore will encourage algae growth.
3
Filter Maintenance
a stable bacterial colony is vital to the stability of an ecosystem. In a new aquascape it is advised to leave your external cannister for 6-8 weeks before any maintenance is done. 4 weeks for internal filters.

Adding poly wool to your filter will aid in final polishing the water and adding clarity. If any staining is occurring from wood, Seachem Purigen will absorb the tannin, clearing your water and adding a purity feel.
4
Checking Equipment
Maintenance is also checking all remaining equipment, such as heaters not condensation on the inside. CO2 equipment is not leaking from the bubble counter. Changing your CO2 drop checker solution monthly to ensure accuracy.
